Default Raw timber

Hi Everyone.

This is my first post and probably my most desperate plea.

After years of putting off I going to build a dolls house this year from scratch using a great book written by Brian Nickolls. This books give plans and everything is built from scratch, doors, windows, roof tiles.....

My problem is I just cant find anywhere too by wood at 1mm or 2mm thick.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be amazing.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon, These people are very good :- Wood Supplies - Home Page
You have to navigate around the site but they have a really good selection. I've purchased from them in the past and can recommend....Hope this helps... Joe

Hi Simon and welcome.

If you are looking for suitable wood to make windows etc try Hobbycraft (assuming you are in the UK) or any decent modelling shop. Not sure if 1 or 2mm is available but this sounds rather thin for a 1/12th scale house.

I have built a number from scratch but not so much windows etc. For the main carcase, walls etc I use 9mm MDF which is easy to work and splinter-free.

Hi Reg, they have an amazing selection and the quality is first class. The only disadvantage is that I had to pay by cheque as Online Payment wasn't available but that may have changed now. However their Delivery was fast and the items were very well packed.

Hi Simon. Welcome to the forum.

Wood Supplies were showing at the one day Miniatura last year and I found them to be very helpful, friendly people. I was impressed with the advice they gave me as a complete amateur at scratch building. I am going to have a go a making a sink unit and bed for the Bakery....... But don't hold your breath

What I particularly like is that it should be possible to get a consistent match with items such as bannisters/handrails, something that seems to vary greatly with other suppliers. I have also used, on your recommendation Joe, the Dolls House Cottage Workshop at Sawley Marina. I got the floorboards for another project from them and the quality is very good although the range is not fantastic.
