Default Jane Harrop Furniture Kits

Just wondering if anyone else has made any of the Jane Harrop Kits. I have decided that as Mr & Mrs Snow, in their 1950's shop, are middle aged they would have some utility furniture in their house. There are quite a few pieces that I like and she is going to be at the York fair but just wondered if anyone could give a recommendation for them.

Hi Jean,
Those kits look lovely, but I have never tried them.........I would like to do a 1930s/40s or 50s house one day.

I am working my way through the kits and when I have finished all of them I will put pics on. Am very pleased with the kits - so far the only one I had a little problem with was the sideboard which was a bit difficult to get the cupboards & drawers lined up properly.

This isn't anything to do with the kits (although I love Jane Harrops book and have made a couple of the simple items from it) but I was fascinated by this article from 1947 on utility furniture.

Google Image Result for http://www.home-front.org.uk/images/rationing/hobbies_weekly.jpg

...especially this reference "The would-be carpenter is advised to use cardboard for the backing panel or else to use "black linen", presumably a reference to old black-out curtains and replace this temporary measure with plywood sheet once it becomes available again." It really underlines the shortage of materials. Actually this whole site is interesting if you are doing a war home.
