Doh, why didn’t I think of this tip before I cut up and made up all the books from the magazine cut outs?
Don’t cut them out the magazines, photo copy them using PC printer onto either photo paper or shiny card making paper, that way you can use them as many times as you like keeping the originals intact for future projects.
The idea came to me when hubby took me down to Maple Street last Friday as a treat out. I bought 2 packs of books to make up for my book shop, 60+ books in each packet. To make sure I had enough for my shop, I photo copied both packs to double the amount.
I am Kicking myself now, as I had made all the books and some great ones with pages too from the magazines I have, had I thought of this tip before I could have made loads more.................too late now though but thought I’d share the tip with others.

Hi Val
That is so annoying when you think of something like that after the fact, but a great tip thanks for that

Giggle WM, I bought some wood flooring for the Church (was going to put marl tiles down but was too expensive in the end) Some deeper skirting board to go against the panelling, a cross with Jesus on it, a lovely bible, some slate colour sandstone............................mmmm......... ........door handles and hinges for the Church, 2 cards of books to make and a lawn mower to paint for my garden. Didn’t take pic’s cause I hid all that I bought as dad didn’t know we went, we sneaked out while he was at day care lol.

Maple Street was all higgledy-piggledy with no real set sequence but they had a lot there including a lot of building bits which was good. I’d go again as they were very diverse with their stocks unlike many places. Went up to their galleries but they weren’t very good as I think Lynda had said, the cafe was shut, apparently it didn’t make money and stocks were low, they were selling their stock at 25% reduction to make more room for their new stocks that were due in soon but did enjoy my trip.

Apologies in advance if I am stating something obvious, but do you know that most PC printed stuff fades with time? And sometimes it can be quite quickly depending on the paper and quality of inks used, so what looks like a nice miniature now wont in a few months time!

I have to disagree with you Mike...as all of the things my husband has printed for me are going on for 5 years old, and show no sign of fading whatsoever!..

Hi Val,
Don't know if I could do this, but, if you tell me which magazines you did the books from, perhaps I could scan them into my computer and, if you pm'ed me your emai, address I could send them to you in an email (or more than one if I can't do more than one lot per email).
Then you could save them on your computer and use them when you wanted.
Just a suggestion, up to you if you would like me to do that.
Ann

Mike I think it has a lot to do with the paper and ink... I have pictures on the wall...(copied family photos) which have been there over a year and the colour is still just as good.:)
I do know that before I had this printer they used to fade...

Hi Val
It sounds like you had a nice day out and had a good spend, Maple Street is very unorganized but they do have such a large stock of items. I must admit the gallery wasn't as good this year as last, more of the exibits had either been removed or weren't lighting up.
I have scanned some pages from the magazines & used these but my printer doesn't print out which such good colours.

Hiya Ann
That was a really generous offer Ann but I have no idea which magazines they are from now and I have about 3 or 4 years worth giggle, I’ve learnt my lesson from it so will print in future but thank you very much for considering this for me!
Mike that scared me and I chatted with hubby cause I was worried about all the things I have printed and made in my sewing shop, did them all the same way resizing and printing them off the internet . Hubby says they will be ok and reminded me of something we printed about 4 years ago that is still fine!

St Vale!
It does depend on a number of factors (sorry if this gets boring but it's part of what I do for a living), the paper, the ink and the printer. Basic PC inkjets such Epson etc with their own paper and inks will last a number of years, but once you look at cheaper inks in particular these are not made to be totally compatible with the printer - I've seem some stuff on cheap paper and inks (you know the sort of stuff I'm sure!) which will fade in a matter of months, particularly if it is direct natural light. Hide it away in the dark and it will last for years (but you'll never see it!)

Thanks for that Mike, I have HP printer, ink and HP papers (photo paper – cards etc), well except for normal day stuff, then I use the cheap paper lol.

If you scan an image to use in your dollhouse, make several copies and put the extras safely away in a file. Then you will have backups for if and when the originals fade. I realize this may not work for everything, but for smaller things that can be easily replaced, it would work!

Hi Mike
You are right.....they do fade ...but only if you use a LASER printer......on laser paper......my hubby did copies of my original scans when I was pregnant.....and they have since faded......but if you use an inkjet printer.......onto normal paper.....then they will last longer......hope this helps to clear things up a little........:D

I haven't had the problem of fading. I had a mum at school tell me once that if I use a digital camera and print of the pics they would fade  I must admit I panicked a bit thinking about all the pics of the children. I have had them printed for some years (I used HP ink/print) and photo paper and there is no fading.
If anything is left in direct sunlight it will fade. I have a south facing patio door and our wooden floor has faded, Oh and my curtains!! Good excuse to get new ones :D
Most dolls houses are out of the direct sinlight so shouldn't suffer from fading. Even if they did fade slightly they would look more genuine!
