Hello, I'm new to the world of doll's houses and was wondering what to do with the roof of my doll's house. I haven't started building or decorating yet but I was given Fern Villa as a birthday present and can't wait to get started on it! I'm not sure whether I should paint or tile the roof, and if I should decorate it before or after building. I'm trying to make it look as realistic and Victorian as possible, any tips on the roof or other aspects (I've yet to decide what to do about the exterior walls, interior walls, floors and staircases too!) would be brilliant, thanks :)

Hi SL

http://s249.photobucket.com/albums/gg221/hamandap/th_welcome-1-2.gifto the forum, you will find we are a friendly bunch although some are nutters, but you will get used to them too, the forum is addictive as DH's and you sound like you are already a Dolls House Addict or DHA

My advise to what to do with your roof, walls and interior is to stare at your house once you have it up, also take a look at the Home Sweet Home thread you will find lots of great ideas there of things we have done to our houses, and also probably find just what you are looking for in terms of what to use, there are just so many choices now, paper, tiles, cardboard, cereal packets cut up, wood, you really need to work out which you like best

Hi SL,

Welcome to the forum.....http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj140/white1rabbit1/welcome.gif

I have Fern Villa too......and have the roof to do also....as Amanda says there are so many options to choose from........and all depends on your individual taste....Bromley Craft products do various different things for roofing.......they may be worth a look to give you some ideas...........

Yes some of us ARE nutters too....... mentioning no names of course.......hehehe:D.....but most of us are blonde....... and some of us just need a blonde wig........hehehe.......I'm sure you will love this forum.......and it is VERY addictive too........

welcome to the forum SL. i am sure you will love it here. as the others have said we are a friendly bunch with a few loonies thrown in for good measure. some are quiet and retireing and other are...well...not!! the easy way to find out is to check out the number of posts each member has posted then you can see who the real chatterboxes are!!!

the great thing about finding this forum is that you just found a whole new bunch of great friens who are here to answer any questions you have, chat about anything and everything (even non dolls house stuff.) and generally have a good old giggle with!!

Wow, what a warm welcome! I've had a look at some home sweet home pictures and all the houses look great, I like the idea of a slate roof but have no idea how to make that! I'm alright with fiddly things so I'd probably be able to work with individual slates but I don't know where to get those from. I dry built my house today and keep sneaking downstairs to take another look at it, I'm definitely addicted already! Glad the madness isn't catching, I was getting worried for a minute there :D

Hi SL

Try Richard Stacey for real miniature slate, or you can use cardboard ones ages to look the business, and they are lighter in weight

I wouldn't have any idea how to make cardboard slates! I don't think I could make it look as good as proper slates though, my craft skills aren't brilliant. Thanks for the tip, will now try and find some slates :)
