Hi all! I've kind of stumbled upon this forum, looks liek I might get hooked very quickly!
I was given a very old Tudor style house which is in serious need of a re-vamp. My daughter and I have started stripping it down, and we're almost ready to start the decoration. I'm trying to find a red roof tile. Do any of you have a link for me to find something? I've seen Bromley's stencil, but they seem to only have grey slate for roofing, would their red brick finish work for a roof?
We're going to do it up more as a child's house, but I don't really know if the roof 'wall' paper will look right if we're painting the house?
Anyway, it will be great hearing your advice. Many thanks, Jo:)

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn242/chrisseysmi/Welcome-10.gif warm welcome to you, you have come to the right place for lots of fun and info. Your house sounds lovely we do like our piccies on here and we are nosey, no matter what any of them say ha ha when i do roofs we make them out of cereal packas, cut strips and then mark them off in tiles, then pain or spray them. You can also spray or paint them whatever colour you want, sorry i dont know anything about the proper tiles, but am sure some one will be along soon who can help good luck with your house.

Hi Jo,
You can always paint the medium that you like the look off. Some of the ladies on here have done their roofs in cereal boxes and painted them, and they have looked very effective, much better than they sound. The grey slates that you have found can be painted. You can also get wooden tiles, again, paint them.
No doubt someone else will be along to offer different ideas and places to purchase soon. But hope I have helped.

Hi ladies! Thanks for your quick replies! I noticed the roof tiles look like a thick cardboard, but I thought cutting enough to cover a roof might be a bit ambitious. I will try posting pics as soon as I figure out how to. Do any of you have pics of your roofs made with cereal boxes? I'd be very interested in seeing how you do it.
I have wanted a doll's house since I saw my first one as a kid, this one is my first and I'm 33! What have I let myself in for?!

hi jo, i did my roof tiles from creal boxes. you cut them in strips rather than individual and its really easy to do!!
cut strips from a cereal box as long as you want but 4cm in depth.
draw a line down the centre (widt ways) of the strip so you have 2cm either side
along this line place a mark every 2 cm
draw a line from these marks to the edge of card so that all along one side of the length you have lots of little squares
cut on these little lines up to the centre line.
you should now have a strip with lots of little tiles. you can paint them now or glue to roof and paint.
if you over lap like brick work pattern they look just like tiles!
i'm sure winston's mum can give you better instructions as it was her that told me how to do it!
congratulations on your first house and welcme to the forum by the way!!!

Hi JC warm welcome to you I cannot add anymore to what the others have said regarding the forum. It is a happy and sometimes "noisy" place to be , but some of us quiet and reserved ones just look on and let the others carry on :p
I was told another idea for roofing tiles and they look good too. Is flooring tiles cut into squares.

Ooh, Amanda, those are gorgeous! Thanks for your explanation Wombat, it makes perfect sense. I'll have a closer look at Winston's Mum's pic to see how it fits together.
Thanks again!

anytime jo, i'll also post a pic of the tiles on my house for you so you have lots of pics to look at!! they are great to do as they are free (if you alreay buy cereal for the kids, which i do) and you can do them anycolour you like! the only mistake i made o mine was not using a matt paint, i used a spray paint but didn't notice it was a glossy finish so always worth checking your paint pots!!

TRhanks Vicky my pictures are not that close up, will give her an idea, what i like about them is they are light, am going to similar on basement of Upton but make them rectangular to look like stone work and will do some effect on them too.

Hi Jo all this talk of roofs and fact that its raining decided to finish roof of my Springwood, tried to get some piccies of the tiles i am painting them in a terracotta emulsion on this house, usually i do spray them, and then am going to darken it down with smudges and bits of weed growing on it. Have also done a few chipped tiles, just cut the corner off every now and then.

Those roofs look fabulous! I am definitely going to use that method, especially seeing as it's for my daughter who'll be playing with it, not to display. We went to Homebase to buy some tester pots of paint too, we're doing the walls in 'wheatgrass' and the window trims and doorframes in 'blue bounty'.
The exterior was done in that horrible sandy paint effect (all rough and prickly) so I've been stripping that off and sanding it down. The rain has brought me in now, but at least I got the front done...two sides and the back to go...I'm also taking the tudor trim off, to modernise it a bit.
