Hi, I'm new here although I've been lurking for a couple weeks! I've already had so much helpful information from reading the posts that I thought I'd post and say thank you! I've always been into dolls houses growing up, and built a few American ones over the years, but when I moved to England ten years ago had to leave them behind. About 3 weeks ago I purchased the Mayfair and basement which I'm doing modern but with a nod to the 1950's (I love retro!). I'm so glad I returned to this hobby, I'm really enjoying it and its a great escape from my two boys and all their "boy stuff" Lol. Anyway really enjoying the forum, hope to speak to you all soon! :)

Hi Amanda,
Thank you for the girly welcome:) I have seen your "Thornfield"-your work is really lovely, it is looking magnificent! My Mayfair is still awaiting a new name, hope I think of one soon as I don't like Mayfair one bit! But yes they will be very different I reckon! The one thing that really annoys me about this house is the stair landings-my little people will have to bend over in half to walk across them!

Hiya Holly,

Welcome to the forums and welcome back to the hobby, must have been heart breaking having to leave your houses behind when you moved. Hope you enjoy doing the Mayfair and chatting to us alone the way but be careful this forum is as addictive as the hobby LOL

Hi Hollyrafe,

I have two boys so I know exactly what you mean about boys toys!

My youngest is now 8 so I'm hoping to get back to my house.

I even bought a playmobil victorian house for my son as I kept finding his playmobil people in my house:eek: He didn't really play with it much and didn't like me interferring with the furniture :(

Hopefully his playmobil people will keep well away from my house.................

It was hard to leave the houses, but then I had to leave everything-even the cat! Luckily I was able to leave everything in my mom's basement so I can visit! And yes! Addictive it is! I've only just started my house and I'm looking at others already as I think I'll end up finishing it before winter. Now if I just had more space!

Oh the boys toys! I have a 4 and an 8 year old-I keep finding matchbox cars in my dollshouse! Apparently with the doors off it makes a great garage! I wish my older one had some interest like Wombat's boys, maybe they'll like the new cowboy range!

i'm sure they will get into it in the end...i'm quite lucky as mine are 11 and 12 now so when told to leave the generally do! although i'll be in the poo poo next year as hubby and i are going to try for a baby of our own!! i think i'll have to invest in a fence for around my house to keep it safe.lol

I've already had to build a makeshift "fence" to keep the cat out! I found him sleeping in the living room, which wouldn't of been too bad except for the damage he inflicted on the newly laid carpet!
Think he thought it was a scratching post. At this rate I'll be redecorating the ground floor before I've finished the top!

Hi Holly

Do you know I had not even noticed that, although I have reduced the width of the hallway on the ground floor as I felt it was too wide and could use the space in the left hand room to better purpose, well all our little people had better get in some limbo practice!!!
