I'm busy furnishing my first house and trying to make as much as I can for it myself. However I can't get my curtains to hang right - in fact I'm not sure I'm doing it right at all! (I'm not the world's greatest sewer). Has anyone got any hints please.

Hi all am busy making curtains, well trying too hee hee, am waiting for glue to dry so prob be tomorrow time all this card and fabric is dry. Had slight problem, the curtain pleater i thought i had here have lent out!!!!!!!!!! thats the wooden one, the one i do have here is a rubber one but only 5 inches wide the curtains i need to do are for the long patio window in the extension, so am doing it by putting on a foam board and using pins and knitting needle make pleats that way you only need about 5 to 7 on ea cch curtain, and that is where i am up to.

Hi all thought would you an update on my curtain making. So far so good, but there is sooooo much hanging about (excuse the pun) have done the all the edges now have to wait for last edges to dry, then i can dp the pleating, which by looks of things will be tomorrow. But am cracking on lol not lost my temper yest so thats a good thing.

Hi there is lot of hanging about isnt their, when i get back from holiday am going to by my own pleater, have you any piccies of your curtains please. I have 9 to make eekkkkkkkk lol the pair i am doing now are for a patio door, so seem really big, makes the others seem nixcer to do, might see if i can do the pleats soon, will have to use pins and needle!
Winston's Mum
24-08-2008, 08:31 PM
Pleats are done, and sprayed so have to wait for that to dry out now, tomorrow will do the pelmet, not having tie backs, cos its the 1940s and think Hilda would just have then straight shes not into Frills!

Hi Winston's Mum
I can't wait to see these curtains! If you're making so many, you'll have to get your pleater back.
Winston's Mum
24-08-2008, 08:43 PM
Hi DM well its not my pleater its my daughter in laws and she cant find it, but i also dont want the folds too regimental cos its an older style property, I have one here which prob will be ok on the smaller windows but i in my wisdom chose to do the patio door first lol

Thank you, yes I like names that can't be shortened either. My eldest is Damien, and ooh he is living up to his name! lol Rafe is just a cheeky monkey. I've got their photo in my album if your feeling nosy! lol Oh thanks about the blinds, yeah roller blinds, I havent seen any instructions for them anyplace but I figured they can't be too difficult. My mom offered to do my curtains but she just retired from nursing and has flitted off on a cross country driving holiday across america, so I don't know when she'll wander home!
Winston's Mum
28-08-2008, 10:22 AM
Hi Holly have you looked on the back of his nech then ha ha bless him, ok will have a look later thanks. All you need to do is first measure window, then cut out out material leaving tiny bit over at sides and bottom, then iron an edge on three sides then glue them, then i used a cocktail stick, or kebab stick put some glue on it and rolls over the top part of blind right side facing you, then put lgue on fabric there you have a blind, if you want to add a bottom lace or edging do that before you do the rolling bit you can also add a pull a bead or something to bottom too.
Hollyrafe
28-08-2008, 10:25 AM
Believe me, I have checked his head! lol Thank you for that, that does sound easy enough, least no tiny stitches! I can crossstitch for england but I can't mend or sew a hem! Go figure.
Winston's Mum
28-08-2008, 10:56 AM
HiHolly just popped back am on way to weed out the front hoping to see postie!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes just iron the hems first then glue you get a better finish i love no sewing too, i want to try cross stitch but dont know how too so when i do it i know who to ask ha ha speak later am going out the front. X
Hollyrafe
28-08-2008, 11:15 AM

I've been trying to make some curtains this past week or two aswell - gosh it seems to take ages but I'm quite pleased with my efforts so far....I've used a book called DIY Dollshouse Curtains by Sue Heaser and it 's fantastic. 29-08-2008, 05:13 PM
Chris - there's pages that show you how to stitch, and plenty of patterns. If you saw the oriental carpet I did, I took that from the book (although I cheated a bit and left out some of the detail :o).
I think the patterns look more difficult than they actually are - but I don't know if that's the case for everyone or if I've just found my crafting skill with rugs LOL.

29-08-2008, 05:30 PM
Hi sorry just had dinner, right will get that one too while i am at it thanks for info X
All the books in that range are good. I've got the rugs one too. I did my stair carpet out of that one I think...
Will post pictures of the curtains I've done so far tomorrow if I can get some taken - depends if the lights good or not.
