Hi All

I'm going to visit Windsor Castle on Saturday & see Queen Mary's Dolls House, my sister lives in Swindon so I asked her if we could come & see her in order to see it. I did go a few years ago but that was before I was interested in DH's.

Queen Mary's Dollshouse is on my list of 'Must Visits'....from photos it looks absolutely amazing! i've heard it even has running water and flushing toilets - don't know how true that is though :)
Have a lovely time and look forward to hearing all about it when you get back...

Hi Kath,

Yes, it's true! I was there earlier this year and it's certainly well worth a visit. In fact if you're going it pays to check out the website for Windsor cos if they have something arranged you only get round some of the Castle and the State Apartments are closed. It would be a pity to miss those as they are great to see too.

Hi Lynda,

It is really lovely at Windsor Castle. Sue and I went a couple of years ago, and we sat on the floor looking at it for ages whilst everyone else filed past us. It is really amazing the detail in it. I am sure you will have a good time and seeing your sister is a bonus (I presume).

Hi All

I'm really looking forward to going, I have the guide from a few years ago & hope to get a more recent one as I thinks its been updated. As I won't be driving I don't know how early we will get there. I've been looking at the website for the castle & the Stateroooms don't seem to be closed.

That is a beautiful house. Do you think it was ever played with. Imagine being the one to dust it ...hee..hee...I would play with it. I would have to move little bits of furniture around :D

That is one dolls house that is worth a visit

Hi Lynda,

I was going to say don't forget the camera......but I don't think they allow photos do they.....such a shame that.......but then I suppose they want you to buy the guide book.....I must try to get to see this house for real.....:)

Hi mom

Of course I will take my camera, at least I will be able to take pics of the outside of the castle. What a shame I won't be able to take any of the Dolls House. I have a guide book but might get a new one as I know its been updated & might have different pics in it. You must try & get there sometimes & see it yourself.

Hi All

I had forgotten how large the dolls house is, I don't know if there is another as big as this one. As we were there on a Saturday afternoon it was busy & had to queue to see it but it was worth the wait. I bought a new guide book & a DVD as well but haven't had the time to watch it yet. I managed to take some photos of the outside of Windsor Castle for you to see, the last one is of the river near Eton. Sorry they aren't very clear,

Hello Cinderella

I'm glad you enjoyed your day and your photos are lovely. It is big, isn't it - the house I mean. Even although it was busy did you get a chance to study the detail and the garden cos it doesn't feature much in the book?

Hi DM

I stood & looked at the house for as long as I could, I thought the rooms for the maids were interesting & also liked the trunk room, it isn't in the guide book is it. The garden is huge & what a brillient idea to put it underneath the house.

Hi Amanda & Chris

It's lovely at Windsor I just wish we could have had more time, but going round the Castle took a while. The State Rooms are really posh, you would get lots of ideas Amanda you must go sometimes. There is a hand held audio guide but I couldn't keep up with it, I must have been about 2 rooms behind. I managed to get lots of info though.
I want to make a throne for my daughters castle after seeing the real ones there, but that is something else to keep in mind. We did walk over to Eton & I bought some dolls house bits from a shop which sold antiques / 2nd hand things.

I would definitely love to go to Windsor at some point to see the dolls houses...
I live quite a while away but if it is worth a visit then I will definitely go, maybe at Christmas.
There's also a museum in York called the Castle Museum which displays a fine range of Georgian and Elizabethan dolls houses and they occasionaly offer workshops to make different items for your own dolls house.

I went for the weekend & stayed at my sisters house which is about 1 hours ride away, it is defiantly worth visiting but check before going if the State Rooms are open beforehand. The house was designed by Luteyns with all the miniatures made by famous people of the time.

I have been to the Castle Museum in York more than once but not for a few years, I have been wanting to go back but not had the time.
