We are constantly on the look out for new ideas for miniatures and accessories of all descriptions to enhance our collection. If you have any ideas, or something you have tried in vain to find, then let us know on this forum, we would love to hear from you....
I would like to see a pub dolls' house made available. My Grandfather used to build dolls' houses as a hobby from scratch and bought some of his accessories from the Dolls House Emporium. He built a wonderful country pub dolls' house with all the trimmings, right down to the beer bottles, glasses and mats! Me and my brother used to have hours of fun in 'The Maxfield Arms' when we were younger.

I'm currently working on a modern house and am finding it difficult to find furniture and accessories for this era, although I must admit that it has improved since I first started trying about 8 years ago!
One thing in particular that I'd like to see is a flourescent strip light, like you find in the kitchen.
Thanks

Me 2! I would have loved a strip light for the house I am doing....
I'd like to see more flooring options e.g. tiles not tiling sheets, especially in a kitchen for a slate/flagstone floor.

Hi, I have just joined the forums - I would love to see bungalow doll's house and a caravan made - I used to have a "Sindy " caravan and it would be nice to have a wooden one with storage, beds, shelves, washroom etc. I also used to live in a bungalow where the layout was unusual and would have made a good dolls house with a slide off roof or open sides!
The castle you have is a good idea, but could be even better if it had a dungeon, secret room, spiral stairs to a tower etc.
I have always loved doll's houses since I was very young, and used to like doing things like xmas scenes with miniatures - e.g santa's grotto.
Miniatures suitable for outside would be great - people could have a "fairy grotto" in a rockery, or a scene in a perspex case perhaps that can be changed to reflect their own garden/seasons?
I have not got the technical skills to do it myself, just the ideas - so if someone like the Emporium made them a reality, that would be fantastic!!

Hi a couple of weeks ago i was looking on ebay and did see a flourescent light for sale. I just had a look on ebay today dosent seem to be on there any more, but its definatly worth checking out now and again.
As like you i am trying to make my dolls house as modern as possible, but also struggle getting hold of the bits.

I echo more modern stuff, you can buy tons of victorian or edwardian stuff but I've really struggled to find modern and the pieces I have found are mega expensive. I've given up trying to do an ultra modern house and gone for a modern house belonging to an elderly widow so I can fit in some older style stuff without it looking odd. I would love to get one of the DHE modern properties and furnish it very contemporarily in the future.

I have the priory and have more or less completed it
I am limited for space and would like to extend downwards into a garden
I have a cabinet which it stands on nicely but nowhere to extend side ways
have tried to get a drawer built but told its not viable
but feel it would only be similar to the old queen anne stand with garden drawer without legs
there must be plenty of people in this position unable to extend sideways but who would like to extend downwards
I love the house because of the wide impressive staircase like so many stately homes in real life
would love to live in real house like that

also have the Bell Inn now renamed the Cat and Fiddle
bought it because it was still available and wanted a smaller project and of course lack of space
have done it more or less 1920s ish style
Its worked out fine except never really found the right light for the ceiling and ended up with the orange chandelier which doesn't really look right for the part
did think about the black candle chandelier but maybe not right either
the one thing I don't like is the frontage
looks to modern and winebar ish

I would love to see a Laura Ashley based range, similar to what was done with the Charles Rennie Mackintosh collection. Laura Ashley home furnishings, wallpapers etc.. are so nice in real life that i think they would make amazing additions to a doll's house!
Fiona that is a lovely idea - I like Laura Ashley too. :)
I would also love to see vertical blinds, roman blinds or roller blinds for our modern windows and conservatories!
Ooh I also echo the Laura Ashley idea, especially if it could have some matching fabric too.
My wish list is rather long but here goes:-
1- A telescope on a tripod, not too modern looking and within a reasonable price range; only one I've found was made of brass and far too expensive for me :)
2 - A one up, one down dormer windowed small thatched country cottage kit, with garden base for the outside privy and the vegetable patch. I'd love to try thatching on a small scale.
3 - A sample catalogue of wallpaper and carpets, DHE is great about sending things back but sometimes I'd find it easier to see the actual colours, photographic reproductions are never like the real thing. I wouldn't mind paying for this either.
4 - Beds that don't have mattresses glued in place, especially the pillows; I like to do my own bedding and sometimes it drives me insane trying to remove the pillow so it doesn't spoil the look.
5 - Fabrics to match your wallpapers.
6 - More undressed dolls, especially a man.
7 - A budget that would allow me to do everything miniature I'd like ;)

That's quite a list Dawn, but we always take note of what our customers have to say, so watch this space!

I echo Dawn for a more 'cottagy' house. I have lots of cottage bits and bobs collected over the past couple of years but have yet to find a cottage that I really love, apart from the DHE resin one which is out of my price range :( So a cottage, similar to 'Kate's Cottage' that you used to have would be great - I could kick myself for not buying Kate's Cottage when I could, I remember coming to the shop in Derbyshire and it was reduced and I didn't buy it

Like Suzanne, I'd love to see more 1/16 scale furniture and accessories, too. My dad made my elder daughter (now in her 20s) a dolls house when she was about 8, and she managed to get some stuff at a dolls house fair years ago. She's lost interest now, but I've got the house, and I'd love to furnish it properly. If I find anything the appropriate size, it's either modern plastic children's toys, or old and expensive.

Found this one on ebay......250164244631
sure I've seen one somewhere else too .
It's a bit pricey at £12.95 + p&p but I'll keep an eye out and try and remember where I saw the other one.
Hope this helps

Hi Kayjay
Don't know if your still looking for a cottage to work on...But I'd like to recommend the one I've got..Its made by Greenleaf an American company and It's called The Glencroft...The inside is sooo quaint..It has the most gorgeus winding staircase to the upper floor..BUT OMG....IT COMES IN ABOUT A 1000 PIECES..So patience is definately a virtue with this one!!...lol
My Hubs still cringes when I mention working on it
Well worth it though...It's turning out lovely..I've thatched the roof with brooms sold at Halloween!!

Hi Kate,
I have made individual tiles myself, using sample pieces of laminex (laminated kitchen bench material). Here in Australia you can order samples from Laminex and Formica companies, online - they are about 5 inches square. The back of these looks like slate. I have cut different sizes, ie rectangles and squares, and lay them so that you get that 'cottagey' look. When they are coated with estapol, they look like slate.

Another vote for a caravan here please :) One of the square-ish static caravans would be perfect; I would set it out as a weekend/holiday van used by a couple (probably empty nesters with a few hobbies) so there would be lots of little personal bits and pieces in it for example a basket with card-making and scrapbooking work in plus some cross stitch etc.
Add some walking boots and coats, favourite mugs and slippers and it could be quite cosy... I can see it now :)
Oh and... re. roller blinds; I made one for my scullery out of an old paintbrush handle and a scrap of material. I'll post a picture later :)

Hello,
I to was looking for normal working people, I have found a great company who you might be interested in, they have people and they also do rustic furniture and lots of other Tudor stuff.

I have found a company that do real slate flooring, bricks, roof slates they come in a number of colours so can be used for flooring, I used them for my down stairs tudor floor. They can be stuck down with PVA glue and then need to be grouted which they sell as well, did have to buy a dremal to cut them.
