Do most of you light your houses?

I am gong to use the socket method but I cannot visualise how I will hide the wires etc. I will be using skirting and coving (I think thats what you call it) could you hide the wires behind that?

Would you advise painting/papering before attempting the wires? Is it as hard as it looks?

thanks everyone

I found it really easy with this method for a first attempt. You have to route a groove into the actual dolls house walls but it's easy. some ppl have a special tool but I just cut a v shape with a craft knife! If the lights are on a back wall just drill through (you can buy a special small drill 1.5mm I think) where the light is going to go. For ceiling lights, make the groove in the floor above and feed the wire through from the room below. I'm not sure about side wall lights...I did mine on the back walls and papered before I made the holes. Once you've fitted the lights cover the wires with masking tape and then they shouldn't show. On the ceiling ones the carpet covers the grooves so again should be ok.

Someone else will be here soon who can maybe help you with side fitting lights and papering but hope this made sense and has been some help lol There are pictures of my house in my album so this may give you an adea of how they look..... I have two socket strips attached to the back of the house for my lights...one at each side as some lights have shorter wires than others lol.

On another note for anyone else who uses this method....I went to B&Q and bought a remote switch for my lights...the set I bought was £20 but that included 4 sockets and a remote control to turn them on and off. You just plug your transformer into the socket and the socket into a normal wall socket (or extension as I have) then you can turn the lights on and off without having to move the house everytime to get to the switch!....best thing I've bought lol

Hi Emily,
Weepy has given you good advice. And yes most of us light our houses, it really makes them magical. The first thing I would do is make a drawing of your house on paper, then decide where you will want lights, on ceilings, walls, etc. Draw them on. Don't forget to draw sockets if you are wanting to have table/floor lamps or anything else that plugs in. Once you do that, you can decide where you need to make your routings for the wires. There's loads of us to help here, if you need anything just shout! Oh and welcome to the forum by the way! Oh I forgot, do your ceilings first, painting or paper. Wallpaper first if you are having wall lights, but not on the other side of the wall behind them till after the wiring is done. Floors go last after everything else.;)
