In fact, I am SO excited, I totally blew away my message as I was sending it!
I am going to scratch-built my DREAM HOUSE!!! I found a plan I really, really love and while it is going to be a HUGE challenge in many ways, I am really looking forward to it.
First, here is a link to my inspiration for this house -- yes, it is based on a "real life" house plan!
http://www.houseplans.com/2240-square-feet-3-bedroom-2-bathroom-Traditional%20house%20plans-0-garage-%7B17885
Please go on to look at the floor plans -- the lower level will have an awesome home theater, a small pub, and on the other end -- get this -- room for a garage. (Now how do I find a properly scaled car, I wonder???!!!)!
The mid-level has great room, kitchen and dining, two bedrooms and ONE bath. I'm deleting one to make one of the bedrooms larger. And I will probably delete all or most closets and will move the laundry to the lower level.
Top level: master bedroom suite with a great bathroom, a loft that overlooks the great room and a covered deck.
OK, fans, I'm off -- got a lot of planning to do -- plus I'm gonna need to find some special hinges and/or magnets (or magnet tape?) so I can have better accessibility to all the rooms.
Later!

I am SO excited that I think I posted in the wrong area -- just noticed it said "Children's Forum" and unless I can still be counted as a kid at 58, I put it in the wrong place! Maybe I should re-post elsewhere???

Hi Vermont,
That is an incredible house! Will be a great dolls house. And I wish it were my real house, lol. 1/12th cars are difficult to come by. Its not a scale too many car manufacturers make in. DHE does sell a 1/12th mini.

I wish it could be my real house, too. I think that's why I picked it -- if I can't have the BIG ONE, I will have this one!
Do you know what car DHE sells???

I'm hoping to get started soon. First, I'm going to have to do some scale drawings and that could take a while. I do know that the house will measure approximately 26 inches by 47 inches, so that gives me a starting place. And I have to adapt it so that I can plan access -- which, to me, is going to be the most difficult part -- in a way, I think building it post and beam will allow for that kind of flexibility -- I'm just not sure yet. The key will be to figure out if I will leave any one side open, which solves part of the problem, and then whether I will hinge other parts, or use magnets, or in the case of the rook, make it lift off -- and should that be whole or in parts..... urghhhh!.
I can see it all in my head -- it's just a matter of getting it out of my head and into reality!!!
I will be so happy to get past this fidgety part of it and actually start building!
And, yup, I do plan on taking pictures, although it might not look like much of anything at the start...
Regardless, I'll keep you posted!

Hi Vermont
Just an idea......but would it be any easier.... building each floor section seperately.....and then have each side hinged ......but don't put the hinge directly on the corner....put it ....maybe two thirds across.....allowing access from all sides......but still giving you the stability at the corners.......
You can get 1/12th cars...just do a search on the internet, you will be surprised what comes up!
Try E-Bay, they have some, sometimes

I'll be posting pictures on "Home Sweet Home" -- look for the name of my house, which is "Northwoods" for updates -- periodically. I've been slow at working on this lately what with the holidays, but I did manage to affix 220 "rocks" to my exterior chimney and this weekend I "manufactured" a whole bunch more (used a whole package of Paperclay!). Right now they are just little white blobs, so no point in posting that picture!
