Question Creating realistic Brick/Stone Effect

Still looking for new ideas etc I stumbled over this video:
Realistic Dolls House Exteriors
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPmq9k3iCk4

Has anyone used this (Brick Compound & Stencils from Dolls House Kits, Brick and Stone Finishes, Dolls House Lighting, DIY, from Bromley Craft Products. ?)

Is it as easy as it looks? Or not worth the hassle?
Is there another metod to get a nice stone/brick exterior? At the moment I think about a beige sandstone but I don't think a print on paper will do...

I think a few people here have used it successfully, but meanwhile you might want to look at these web tutorials as well. Dolly Donut posted the brick one the other day.

hi mouse, i have usd the stencils and they are very easy to us. not too messy either. i mainly use them for the exterior flooring, creating pavements. i did use it on my fairbanks but made the mistake of using too light a colour of grout and the whole thing looked too clean. these stencils are great though.

Good tip! But I think I'm to lazy to cover a large area with this method

I thought more along the outsides of a building the size of Wentworth Court or Montgomery Hall

Dolly donut, that is a great site with lots of information. One question are the stencils quite durable and are you happy with the finished effects?

they are very durable. as for the result, i was very happy with the results and bought several stencils and powders, back when i first got interested in miniatures properly. however, since i have discovered richard stacey brick, which are the real thing and look more realistic i have stuck with them. that said, the finish with those can be uneven and whilst this is suitable for the kind of projects i have used them on it may not suit a more modern property where you would expect the bricks to be all of a uniform size. the big disadvantage with real bricks is the cost
