I only know cause I've been reading and looking at various houses (I'm still undecided as to which house to get) but I noticed that some are ready grooved, but if yours isn't, then I think I read on here, that you can use a stanley blade or dremel tool to scribe a groove into the surface of the room above, where the light is going to go. Mind your fingers though.

Im sure you'll find a house thats just right for you soon

Hi Creativelc

The way I do it. From the point of your central light on the floor of the room above the one you're working on, draw a line to the back of your house and drill another hole for your wires to go through. Using the line as a guide and a stanley knife cut a V shaped groove for your wires. You don't have to dig away at this, just make the groove deep enough that the wires sit in comfortably. Fix light, run wires along groove, out the hole at the back and cover wire with strip of masking tape. You can also use this method to run wiring along behind skirting boards, again making sure that the wire sits nicely in the groove, cover with masking tape and then skirting board. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that explains it perfectly.
