Default Applying stone front/slate roofing and lead work

Hello everyone,

Some of you will have probably seen that I'm new to this site, if you've seen my thread in introductions.

Well, I've now been chucked in at the deep end and I could really use some help please.

In the past I've been given childrens dolls houses to do-up and then I've given them away again when I've completed them. So I've got some experience of houses and loads of DIY experience as well, which should help me. But I'm a bit stuck on stones, tiles and lead work.

I've just purchased a completed dolls house that I'm going to add finishing touches to. But now, I'm the incredably proud owner of one of the Dolls House Builders houses which is called Ashcombe Manor.

This house has never been touched and is fully complete with everything to finish building it, doors, skirtings, windows etc. That's the easy bit though, It has also been supplied with beautiful yellow rough sandstone and specially cut stone coinings. Along with all the slates to fully slate the roof and loads of lead work. Does anyone have a picture of what leadwork looks like on flat roofs and also around dormer windows and gullies please? Even better, has anyone got any photos of a house that is fully covered in stone or any tips.

Thanks very much for your help

Hiya Michelle,

Congratulations on your new house. I have only used stonecoating paint before, do you know where the stone work came from? Maybe if you contact the place it came from they could advise!

This is how we did the lead flashing round the dormers on my Ashcombe Manor!

Hiya, thanks for your help. The lead flashing looks great on your house, very professional. I've just taken another look at the stone etc, it's from Richard Stacey, I'm just going to go and take a look at his website now. I'm getting more of an idea of how to do the job now, been searching around on the net as well. Thanks again

Oh nice bit of stonework Michelle, you really got a bargain there! They have instructions how to do their stonework on their web site and if you ring or email Gay is very helpful!

Thanks we thought so too, that's why Hubby was so keen to buy it for me lol. There's enough stone to do the whole outside of the house including the sides as well, by the looks of it. I've been on their website, they have some beautiful stones on there. Plus the instructions etc, I think I'm sorted almost lol. The stone came with the mortar and grout etc. I'm now itching to start hehe.

I've finally finished adding the stones to the front of the house (having a break before I start the sides of the house) I've added a couple of "work in process" photos in an album in my profile. I'm going to try and add them on this thread (fingers crossed it works)

Thanks so very much for your kind comment This is the first time I've used stones. I'm crossing my fingers that the grouting will make it look even better and not worse lol. I'm going to start grouting in the next hour, I will add further pics later Thanks
