Storage boxes, sheds or handmade benches are good for hiding socket strips on the outside

Hi and welcome to the forum. Just reading your posts and thought you could hide the socket strip in the attic space?....I have this house but have decided to give up the hobby to concentrate on another one, so it is currently on ebay......I have been tempted a few times to take it off again though! Lol

Hi Rootyboots and welcome You're doing a great job with your Mountfield...it's great to see someone else changing a kit, I'm always doing it I have Mountfield too and like you I'm using the back wall and made a kitchen window looking out of the back... I chickened out of putting the french door on there too after having cut out the window so I left a door coming out of the dining room side. I also put a kitchen door where the original kitchen window was...I'm setting my house in the early fifties. Look forward to seeing yours when it's put together. You can see mine in my album called 'Fairfield Gardens' or search for my thread of the same name

Wow, thanks everyone - those are some great ideas for hiding the socket strip. I'm terrified of actually doing the lighting... I don't think I'll relax until it's all decorated and lit and all mistakes are made (and hopefully rectified!)

I don't have a 'proper' chimney to use but I have heard you can use drainpipes to bring wires down the side of the house invisibly. I like the idea of hiding the socket strip in the attic, or in the shed (which I fully intend to have!) I'll have to talk to my dad about how he thinks I should do it. Pity he lives so far away!

Kath, I'm off to look at your Mountfield now - can't wait to see it!

Just a quick update... I've put it all together, and it's not too bad! The wallpapers almost all line up very well... a few millimetres here and there. I won't post any more pictures as yet as there's a lot of cleaning up to do before it's presentable! But I'm very relieved!

Now I have to worry about the lighting... I'll probably be posting another thread/question about how exactly to do this - now that I don't have the blank back panel, I think not only will I have to hide the wires somewhere, I may also have to re-route or extend them, too. Scary!

Thanks again, all... it all went well!

Hi again, Kath! Thanks - I'm so relieved! I will definitely put some pictures up asap. Unfortunately now that my husband is doing a City and Guilds in photography he only has a fancy camera that I'm not allowed to touch! But he's promised me he'll take some photos, hopefully tomorrow!

xx

I just bought the current (in Australia - 2 months behind the UK though) 'The Dolls House' magazine (Issue 140) which has several articles on lighting, including one from the DHE! The one by John Cutts with photographs is excellent and, in conjunction with the others, has cleared up a few of the things I was worried about. Another article was from Greenleaf, so may be on their site if you wanted to look there first.
