Default Wood cladding in kitchen.

Hi happy New year.
Need advice please. I have put wood wall cladding in kitchen and stained it. Looks good but before I add trim not sure if it's too dull. Should I paint it (what colour) or leave it and paint above it and then paint barewood furniture to brighten it up. The interior of house is late victorian.
Appreciate any ideas. Thankyou
