Default Posting Photographs

Hi all

It's been brought to our attention that there's been a few problems with posting photographs recently, particularly from Photobucket.

To explain: Photobucket was a service that allowed you to upload images and post them on other websites, like this forum. This is called Third Party Hosting. Photobucket recently updated their service to disallow Third Party Hosting unless you pay a subscription fee.

In light of this, we've found some free alternatives to Photobucket, that allow you to upload images and post them as part of your forum posts here.

https://cubeupload.com

and

https://vgy.me

both provide Third Party Hosting, without the need to create an account.

If you'd like to read more about the changes to Photobucket and their implications, you can do so by clicking here.

To illustrate the point, here's 2 images. One of which (The Grosvenor Hall image) is hosted on Cubeupload and the other (the conservatory) which is hosted on VGY.

As said above, both Cubeupload and VGY are completely free, and do not require any kind of account.

In order to post an image on a post, like the ones above, you need to paste in a valid url (http://www.image... etc) between [img] url goes here [/img] tags

You can type them in manually when you post, or click the Insert Image button (a little image of a mountain), which then prompts you to paste in a URL. If it's a valid URL from a host that allows Third Party Hosting, your image should appear.

Another site popular site that also allows you to post hosted images is Flickr. This does require an account, but it's totally free.

As an alternative, you can try attaching images to a post, by using the Attachments button (a little black paperclip) when writing your post. This method allows you to upload an image directly to the forum and attach it to the post. This method is perhaps not the best, as it will automatically resize images to a certain size, and large images may be too large to upload so the upload may fail.

I hope this helps,

All the best

Mark

Although not third party hosting, a tool I use to upload my pics directly to the forum is a free app. called Fotosizer. This enables me to flip, rotate any pictures, but more importantly enables me to resize any large files, which is usually a common problem that stops a pic being uploaded (also saves a bit of space on your server too :0) ). I have never encountered any problems with this app. , does not seem to affect posted image quality and does not come with any bloatware, and is simple to use.
