Default The Mackintosh House

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was born 7th June 1868 one of eleven children, and lived until 1928. In 1900 he married Margaret Macdonald, an accomplished artist and the two collaborated together on a number of projects. He was trained as an architect and spent his professional life in Glasgow, becoming a partner in the firm Honeyman and Kieppe. He produced all of his major pieces of work in and around Glasgow, they are mostly still standing and remain as milestones in 20th century architecture and interior design. Most pieces are open to the public, serving to inspire and remind of the genius which has been heralded as the fore-runner to the modern movement. Mackintosh designed a wide range of things form huge buildings and their interiors to book covers and almost everything in between; all with a passion for function and detail, all identifiable due to his unique style.
